Safe Schools Hotline:
The Council Bluffs School District Safe Schools Hotline provides students and parents with an anonymous way to report threats, bullying or seek help. By calling 712-322-SAFE (7233), anyone has the option of leaving a detailed message or talking to someone directly 24 hours a day. Students may also send an email to SafeSchools@cb-schools.org to share information or concerns. This hotline helps ensure schools have safe and respectful environments.
The Green Hills Area Education Agency provides additional non-discriminatory programs and services for students.
Gay Straight Alliances:
Council Bluffs public high schools - Abraham Lincoln High School, Thomas Jefferson (TJ) High School, and Lewis Central Senior High School - have Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs), student organizations working for acceptance of all students inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity. Two statewide groups assist GSAs - the Iowa Pride Network and the GLBT Youth in Iowa Schools Task Force.
Iowa School for the Deaf:
Council Bluffs is home to the Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD), a state educational institution serving the entire region (all of Iowa and neighboring Nebraska), resulting in an increased concentration of Deaf and Hard of Hearing GLBT residents.
